The Chipmunk And The Ice Cream Fable
A story about the importance of not giving up on your dreams.
Alfie the Chipmunk has always wanted to taste strawberry ice cream, but his village has no strawberry ice cream. The bus that goes into the city comes around once a month, just before Alfie’s school day ends. How will Alfie manage to board the bus to the city to get his precious ice cream?
The bus was coming today, and Alfie knew he had to make the bus. He had been thinking about how strawberry ice cream would taste all day in school. Even when his friends were talking to him about the dance-off that evening, Alfie paid no attention. He had his head in the city, where he wanted to be. He also had a plan.
School closed at 3 pm, and the bus arrived at 2:45 pm. They had a test for their last period, and Alfie knew Miss Grundy would be willing to let him leave a little early if he finished early. He had spent the whole night studying hard to complete the test quickly and with high scores. Now he felt ready.
Sure enough, at 2 pm, they were all seated for the exam. In 15 minutes, Alfie was done. He had surprised himself and did a quick review of his answers. Then he submitted his paper to Miss Grundy.
With a smile on his face and fear in his heart, Alfie asked Miss Grundy whether he could leave early. She allowed him to go because he had done an excellent job with the exam. Alfie glanced at his watch. Now he had only 10 minutes.
After waving to his friends who were still hard at work trying to finish their test, Alfie sped out of the school building. Then he ran through Mrs. Peterson’s garden and to the bus stop. He ran and was wheezing, but there it was, finally, the bus. Alfie entered and took a seat.
Soon the bus drove out of their little village and into the city. Right opposite the bus stop in the city, there it was – “Miss Kutner’s Strawberry Ice Cream Shop.” Alfie smiled from ear to ear. Finally, his strawberry ice cream dream would come true.
Moral of the story: Make your dreams come true by chasing after them.
Now imagine Alfie’s dream was about learning German:
Alfie had been dreaming of learning German for a long time. When he decided he no longer wanted it to remain a dream, he started working toward realising it.
First, Alfie gathered the important details, like the best way to learn and the best resources to use. With this information, Alfie made a plan.
Alfie deserved to see his dream come true. Why? He had put a lot of work into it. He spent so much time preparing for his German learning. Then he boldly asked Angelika to help him find the best way. After that, he was willing to do all the learning required.
If learning German is your goal, gather relevant information about how to make your dream come true. Draw up a plan. Then work hard to follow that plan.
You also need to be bold. There will be obstacles in your way to reaching your goals, whether it is conflicting time schedules, like with Alfie, or things, like grammar, that you can’t sort out yourself.
So gather courage and ask for help. Don’t stand in your way when making your dreams come true!
