Those of you who have been reading my blog posts for a while – or have had lessons with me – know that I always encourage German learners to celebrate the positive things, like I wrote in this post Celebrate your German knowledge
Today I am suggesting another way of encouragement.
- Use a gratitude jar. Find a (clean 😉) glass jar and every day write a note about something you are grateful for in relation to learning German, no matter how big or small it is.
- Or write a general grateful note in German.
- Or, depending on how often you practise your German, write something after each German lesson.
- Fold the note and place it in your ‘gratitude jar’.
- Once a week, empty the jar and read through your notes, basking in the warmth of gratitude.
- Place the notes back, allowing the jar to gradually fill, symbolizing your journey with the German language.
- As you place each note back, take a deep breath and feel thankful for every step you take in learning German.
You could even add some affirmations before you place your note into the jar.

- I am grateful for all that I have – including my German, just as it is right now.
- Every day I find small reasons to be thankful – even while learning German.
- Gratitude brings joy, motivation and ease into my German learning.
I hope, I have given you another way to be thankful for the German you have learned. Or maybe I have given you an idea for something different but equally positive.
For more affirmations check out my blog post 25 positive affirmations for German learners or read Celebrate your German knowledge again. Both posts also have freebies. But most of all ENJOY LEANING GERMAN!
