As a child, did you ever play “I spy”? The game, where one person says “I spy with my little eye something beginning with (letter from the alphabet)”, or something that is a particular colour or shape.
It’s also played in Germany and we call it ‘Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst’ (Literally: I see something that you don’t see).
It’s a perfect game to practise
- Colours in German: Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst und das ist blau/ rot/ grün …
- Shapes in German: Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst und das ist rund/ viereckig/ dreieckig …
- Nouns & the alphabet in German: Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst und das beginnt mit A/ B/ F…
As soon as somebody guesses the right word, it’s their turn to say “Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst und ….”
Why not play it with your German learning family members or fellow German learners. Or, if you are a German teacher or are homeschooling your children it’s a great way to start or finish a lesson with a quick game which requires no preparation.
Alternatively, and because it’s spring (Frühling), have a go at this worksheet which you can download for free here (no email address required)
