Today we’re looking at sentences for Father’s Day.

In the US and UK Father’s Day is always on the 3rd Sunday in June (2024: 16 June), whereas in Germany it’s always on Ascension Day – Himmelfahrt. (2024: 9 May)

Der Vatertag wird auch oft Sauftag genannt.
Father’s Day is also often called Booze Day.

Weil er immer an einem Donnerstag ist, wird der Freitag danach oft ‘Brückentag’ genannt.
Because it is always on a Thursday, the Friday that follows is often called a ‘bridge day’.

A Brückentag happens when an employee only had to take one day off work to get several days of holidays. Ascension Day is a public holiday. So, if people take the Friday off and have already Saturday and Sunday off, they’ll end up with a long 4 day weekend while only using one of their holidays.
