Who hasn’t heard of Grimm’s fairy tales? I bet, everybody has!
One of the Grimm brothers, Jakob, was born on the 4th January 1785, so I thought today would be a good day to show you where you can find out more about the fairy tales.
Wikipedia is always a good starting point. Grimm’s Fairy Tales gives you some background information with a list of all the story titles in English and German. If you click on a link, you’ll then get to a new wikipedia page with information about that particular story.
If you search for Grimms Märchen, you’ll find the same info in German.
If, however, you’d rather just read the stories in German, check out this Grimms Märchen page. Here you can read the stories in German or listen to them. And if you print the story (or open the page again) you can listen at the same time as read them!
If that still isn’t enough for you, check Youtube for Grimms Märchen. That should keep you busy for a while 😉

Edit: Herr Antrim just told me about this site which also has Grimm’s Tales and others: 19th-Century German Stories here you can read the tales in German and English at the same time.

Gotta be Rumpelstiltskin (probably not the German way of spelling it)…I used to love it as a child and still do…. 🙂
The German spelling is slightly different: Rumpelstilzchen.
I only remember the one verse he always says: “ach, wie gut, dass niemand weiß,
dass ich Rumpelstilzchen heiß!” ….. that brings back memories …

I was born and raised in the German town of ” Stadt Steinau an der Strasse”, Maerchenstadt der Brueder Grimm. Born in Hanau, they lived a big part of their youth in Steinau, before moving to Kassel for studies.

Ooh, I just checked out their website – lovely. That must have been brilliant to see those plays every week! I bought a Kindle book of all the Grimm’s fairy tales a while ago and it is interesting to read the original stories, which aren’t always suitable for children.
Lol …no they are not, but I grew up with those stories and none of us children had any lasting damage from them 🙂
50 pfennig was the ticket every Saturday, Sundays was a bit higher …my favoured was Schneeweisschen und Rosenrot.
