The other day I came across ‘six tips to get started at the gym’ and thought that these tips are actually just as relevant for German learners than for gym goers.
Whether this is your first experience in the gym or in a German class, itโs easy to feel overwhelmed and a little intimidated. How do you know where to begin?
1. Find the right gym. One of the most important things is that you choose the right gym for you. This will make a huge difference in how successful your fitness journey is, and how much fun you have. If youโre not comfortable and happy, you will be less likely to keep up your routine.
Finding the right German tutor or class is just as important. If youโre not comfortable and happy, you will be less likely to keep up your German learning.
2. Take the introduction session. When you sign up for a new gym, you may be offered an introduction session, and itโs a good idea to take this, even if you are confident with using the equipment. Each gym is different, and the introduction will be useful in helping you make the most out of every visit.
The same applies to learning German. For example, my online courses have free lessons you can watch to see if you like my style. All my books and planners on Amazon have the ‘Look inside’ option, and if you’re interested in private lessons, you could have the first 15 minutes free.
3. Take the opportunity to ask plenty of questions, and donโt worry about looking silly, that is what the staff are there for!
Again, that’s very important for German learners. There’s no such thing as a silly question!
4. Ask for help. Gym goers are a friendly bunch, so donโt be afraid to ask for help when you need it. This could be from someone working out, or from a member of staff. People will be keen to offer advice!
Yes, ask questions. Ask your tutor or fellow German learners. Often other learners can help you out or admit they also don’t know. Then find out together.
5. Have fun! The most important thing to remember is to have fun.
This could have been one of my quotes! Especially if you’re leaning German because it’s something you always wanted to do and you’re learning on your own. If you don’t have fun, even if sometimes it’s hard to learn, you won’t stick with it!
6. It’s important to set achievable goals and gradually increase the intensity and frequency of your workouts. Proper form and technique should also be prioritized to prevent injury.
The good news is you won’t injure yourself when learning German ๐
But by rushing through things and not learning them properly, you could end up with mistakes that you will do over and over again. So, take your time, set yourself small goals and move on when you’re ready to learn more.
There you have it, six tips which are relevant whether you join the gym or an exercise class, or whether you’re thinking of learning German – or even another language ๐
Do you need help reaching your goal of German fluency? I can help you.ย Message me
Remember, there’s no such thing as a stupid question!
