Practise your German and "Sing Deutsch"

You may recall my blog post a few years ago Improve your German listening skills with lyrics training, a site which lets you practise your listening skills in carious languages, including German.
Last week somebody posted a link on Facebook to a different site with the result that I spent quite some time playing ☺

The site is called “Sing Deutsch” and they invite you to “Sing Deutsch with us! Improve your German vocabulary and grammar by simply learning and listening to top German hits.”

The site has a variety of German songs and you can chose which one by using the following categories:

  • BY ARTIST (currently from A to W)

Unlike Lyrics Training, this site only has German songs, no other languages. It also offers different activities to Lyrics Training.

Let me show you an example. While I played around I found one of the last songs  I bought before I left Germany to move to the UK: “Skandal im Sperrbezirk” by the Spider Murphy Gang.

The first thing you can do is listen to the song at the top of the page.

You can read the lyrics while you listen (screenshot only shows half the song):

Then you can find out about nouns used in the song:

Then about verbs from the song:

And adjectives:

And finally some phrases and cultural references.  Depending on the song, you also might find idioms.

And here is the song:

If you go to “Skandal im Sperrbezirk” you can see what I mean.

Go and listen, search for other songs, play around… and then come back and tell me what you think!
