Kling Glöckchen, klingelingeling

Advent calendar day 2

Kling Glöckchen klingelingeling

Kling Glöckchen, klingelingeling (Ring, little bell, ringalingaling) is a German Chrismas Carol from the 19th century. The tune is traditional and the lyrics are from Karl Enslin (1814 – 1875).
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Lasst mich ein, ihr Kinder,
ist so kalt der Winter,
öffnet mir die Türen,
lasst mich nicht erfrieren!
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
Kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Mädchen, hört, und Bübchen,
macht mir auf das Stübchen,
bring euch viele Gaben,
sollt euch dran erlaben.
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Hell erglühn die Kerzen,
öffnet mir die Herzen!
Will drin wohnen fröhlich,
frommes Kind, wie selig.
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling,
kling, Glöckchen, kling

For those who may not like the traditional Christmas Carols, here is a modern fun version, more like a Halloween song 😉

And for my family – but anybody is allowed to listen – here is the 1966 Christmas version from me, my brother and my cousins (it is a very bad recording, originally recorded by my father with a reel-to-reel, then later recorded with microphone onto a cassette tape and finally transferred to CD). Unfortunately, it is also very quiet, so turn your speakers up (but don’t forget to turn them down again afterwards ;-)) and enjoy Kling Glöckchen, klingelingeling!

EDIT December 2018: At our annual German Carol singing we recorded Kling Glöckchen ourselves:
