Who was Hans Riegel?

I’ve just read in a German online magazine that Hans Riegel died today at the age of 90.

You are probably wondering who he was. He was the oldest son of Hans Riegel of Bonn, Germany.

If you look at the bold letters you can see the word HARIBO. Yes, his father invented those Haribo sweets. According to Wikipedia  Haribo made their first gummy bears in 1920.

Here a very early German Haribo TV ad:

And here a more modern ad with the all known catchphrase: Haribo macht Kinder froh, und Erwachsene ebenso (Which English people know as: Kids and grown-ups love it so – the happy world of Haribo)

If you’d like to read more about HARIBO, check out their website or go to their YouTube channel to watch more videos.

  1. I wish The United States was like the German market without artificial colors & flavors including that disgusting corn syrup! Because Germany doesn’t use that junk! Instead they use Natural Product’s!
