Following on from last month’s blog post about German Idioms and Tongue Twisters with the letter A, here are those with the letter B:
Red‘ nicht um den heißen Brei herum!
Don‘t beat around the bush!
Alles in Butter!
Everything’s okay!
Er macht heute blau!
He’s skipping work today!
Etwas auf die lange Bank schieben
To put something on the back burner

Ich hab‘ keinen Bock!
I can’t be bothered!
Das ist nicht mein Bier!
That’s not my business/ problem!
Ich verstehe nur Bahnhof!
It’s all Greek to me.
And some extra idioms:
Blut und Wasser schwitzen
to be in a cold sweat
das Blaue vom Himmel lügen
to lie one’s head off
ein Brett vor dem Kopf haben
to be a blockhead
einen Bärenhunger haben
to be ravenously hungry
Now it’s your turn to try these tongue twisters. How fast can you say them?
Bierbrauer Bauer braut braunes Bier, braunes Bier braut Bierbrauer Bauer.

Bürsten mit schwarzen Borsten bürsten besser als Bürsten mit blauen Borsten.

If you wish, you can watch the video and see how Steven copes with pronouncing the idioms and working out what they mean.
Or you can listen to it on Spotify
Alternatively, you can think of ways to use these idioms in your German speaking or writing.
Do you know any German idioms with the letter B that I could have added to this list? And which idiom is your favourite?

Do you need help reaching your goal of German fluency? I can help you. Message me
