Famous Germans – Theo Lingen

“Theo Lingen (10 June 1903 – 10 November 1978), born Franz Theodor Schmitz, was a German actor, film director and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 230 films between 1929 and 1978, and directed 21 films between 1936 and 1960.” (source Wikipedia)

Fancy reading about him in German? Here is the German Wikipedia page about him.

Theo Lingen chose the stage name ‘Lingen’ after the town Lingen, which is not far from where I grew up. I found an article from the town about him and his visit to Lingen: Theo Lingen in Lingen

Here are some videos I found on YouTube (Please let me know if any of them have been removed and therefore don’t work here anymore). The first two are old black and white films with him.

And a documentary about him as he said ‘I only became a comedian by accident’

Here’s another film with him

But my favourite YouTube video is a recording from a vinyl, where Theo Lingen reads children’s stories by Wilhelm Busch

Have you seen any films with Theo Lingen?
