Today’s blog post is again about a famous author who wasn’t German but Swiss.
Johanna Spyri, who was born on the 12th June 1827 and died on the 7th July 1901, was a Swiss author of novels, especially children’s stories. The most famous one was Heidi, and even if you haven’t read any of her books, you probably have seen a Heidi film or cartoon.
I found a German children’s website which tells all about her in easy German: Johanna Spyri
Or watch this video about her:
If you search for Heidi on YouTube you’ll find quite a lot of different videos. Here is episode 1 of the cartoon series:
Of course, you could also check out Wikipedia, who has information about Johanna Spyri in English or in German.
Project Gutenberg has several of her books which can be downloaded for free (although not all are in German) Have a look: Books by Spyri, Johanna
Have you read any of her books?
I found one in my cupboard. “Am Felsensprung” was published for the first time in 1886. This book is obviously not that old but my grandparents got it for me 2nd hand when I was around 10 years old
