Deutsch am Donnerstag – a reading comprehension about Bradford-on-Avon

 Welcome to part 2 of my reading comprehension exercises based on my book Wiltshire von A bis Z. Today you can find out about Bradford-on-Avon.

Bradford-on-Avon ist ein beliebter Touristenort, zum einen, weil es direkt am Avon Fluß aber auch am Kennet & Avon Kanal liegt. Zum anderen, weil es interessante Gebäude hat, wie z.B. die Tithe Barn, eine Scheune aus dem 14. Jahrhundert:

Die St Laurence Kirche, eine Kirche aus dem 8. Jahrhundert, ist auch ein Besuch wert.

Seit Januar 2000 gibt es auch „Millie”, so wie die bronzene Statue eines Mühlenmädchens liebevoll genannt wird:

Und seit den Olympischen Spielen 2012 gibt es in Bradford-on-Avon noch etwas Besonderes: einen goldenen Briefkasten. Normalerweise sind die Briefkästen ja rot, aber da die Olymischen Spiele 2012 in England waren und Team GB viele Goldmedaillen bekam, wurde beschlossen, für jede Goldmedaille im Ort des Gewinners einen Briefkasten gold zu streichen. Der goldene Briefkasten in Bradford-on-Avon ist für Ed McKeever, der die Goldmedaille im Kanu Kajak-Einer 200m gewonnen hatte.
