Wir suchen Deutschland – Rügen and Berlin

Last month Peter and Sabine visited Oldenburg and Hamburg, this month they’re off to explore Rügen and finally Berlin.

Sabinchen, einen Tag noch, eine Stadt,
die jeder gern gesehen hat!

Rügen is Germany’s largest island. It is located off the Pomeranian coast in the Baltic Sea and belongs to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and it has always been a very popular holiday destination. It has its own tourist website in English and German.

But just watch these videos. Rügen is definitely on my to-do list now!

Berlin

Berlin, Berlin, wie warst du einst so schön!
Was bleibt von deinen Bauten, deinen Häusern stehn!

Berlin, Peter’s and Sabine’s last place to visit before they went back home to the Erzgebirge. When they visited in 1948, just after WW2, the city was in ruins but the dividing wall wasn’t there yet. Since the wall came down there has been a lot of building work going on and still is. In 2015 I finally went to Berlin and fell in love with it.

Want some ideas? Watch this travel guide:

Or check the Berlin website, again available in English and German.

And that is the end of Peter’s and Sabine’s journey from 1948. I hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoyed writing about it, but keep an eye out for next week’s post – a follow up to today!
